31. French-speaking countries
e: It’s cheesy and cliche, but do love France. And I love other countries that have a hint of French aesthetic. I’m not sure where the romance is hidden in this equation- wrapped in an enjoyment of leisure? tucked into a sexy aloofness? But that romance is always there, pulling me into a stereotypical embrace.
a: I try to remain free of bias as as much as possible in my life - it’s a difficult charge, but I think it makes things more fruitful for me. However I can rarely get beyond my bias when it comes to my love of countries in which a large population speaks French. Of course, I have to recognize that in many of these instances it’s the result of brutal colonization and other sordid histories — but still I’m inextricably drawn into a deep admiration for these countries and feel as though I’m honor bound to love and defend them in some way.
